KARMAR delivered a major investment project for Michelin Polska, encompassing the preparation of the detailed design, the refurbishment and extension of the existing Laboratory building, and the construction of a new Tire Testing Hall together with office, welfare and technical facilities.

The project represented an important step in the development of the plant’s research and development infrastructure, supporting the testing and continuous improvement of Michelin products. The scope of works included both the modernization of the existing laboratory and the construction of a state-of-the-art testing hall designed for specialized tire testing under controlled environmental conditions.

The laboratory building was designed as a monolithic reinforced concrete structure founded on spread footings and strip foundations, with a monolithic beam-and-slab structural system. A steel rooftop structure was installed to accommodate technical and process-related equipment.

Modern Solutions and High Construction Standards

The new testing hall and accompanying buildings were constructed primarily using precast reinforced concrete technology. The technical annex was designed with masonry walls and a precast hollow-core slab roof system, while an internal steel support structure was installed to accommodate extensive technological installations.

A key feature of the project is the set of five specialized testing chambers (boxes), equipped with advanced testing equipment and systems capable of maintaining precisely controlled climatic conditions. These facilities enable comprehensive tire testing and performance evaluation under a variety of operating environments.

Modern & Efficient Solutions

The project was delivered with a strong focus on quality, energy efficiency, and the reliability of the technical infrastructure. Photovoltaic installations with a total capacity of 50 kW were mounted on the roofs of both buildings, supporting the facility’s sustainable operation.

The execution of the project required close coordination of design, construction and technological works within an operational manufacturing environment. By combining modern structural solutions, specialized laboratory infrastructure and advanced testing systems, the facility has become an important part of Michelin’s research and development capabilities and supports the ongoing advancement of innovative technologies for the tire industry.
